About Us

The Irvington Historic Landmarks Foundation (IHLF) was established in 1966 with the mission of preserving the unique character and history of the Irvington neighborhood. The Foundation’s goal has been, and continues to be, to acquire, restore, and preserve historic properties. The Benton House served as its first major purchase, restoration project, and flagship property in this endeavor. This beautiful Victorian home was meticulously restored and remains a testament to the Foundation’s dedication to preservation.

Since then, the IHLF has focused on preserving and protecting other significant local landmarks. The Foundation has only purchased two properties—the Benton House and the Kile Oak— however, its impact has extended beyond these acquisitions. In 2014, the Foundation entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Warren Township Trustee to formally become the stewards for the ongoing maintenance of the Wilson Parker Pioneer Cemetery, furthering its commitment to safeguarding Irvington’s historical legacy.

Through these efforts, the IHLF has remained a key player in maintaining Irvington’s rich history and ensuring that its landmarks continue to be cherished for future generations.
